How do I search the catalogue?
There are two ways to search the catalogue - Simple Search
and Advanced Search.
To use Simple Search enter your search term in the box located on the home page and press the Search button. A search will be performed across the Title and Description fields of all the records in our catalogue.
If you want to narrow down your search results you can use
the Advanced Search page.
The fields provided are:
Ref No: Use this field if you already know the reference number ("Ref No") of the record you are looking for. This will be an alpha-numeric code, always starting with "GB1752".
Description: Use this to search through the descriptions of all the records in our catalogue.
Any Text: This searches all fields of all the records in the online catalogue. You can enter any word or phrase in here.
Title: Use this to search through the titles of all the records in our catalogue.
Date:You can search for dates in a variety of formats e.g. 1890 or 1880-1895 or 19th century or 1900s or early 19th century or mid 19th century or late 19th century or c1890.
You can refine your search further by clicking on "Refine Search Criteria" under the Any Text, Title and Description fields. This will provide you with the following search options:
With all the words: Records returned using this
option will contain every word that you enter into this box.
With at least one of the words: Records returned
using this option will contain at least one of the words that you enter into
Without the words: Records returned using this
option will not contain any of the words that you enter into this box.
