The creation of a global Home & Personal Care division was announced August 2000 as part of the move towards the 'Path to Growth' Strategy. It was to be headed by a divisional director, who would also head an Executive for the division.

Following the launch of a 'One Unilever' plan in February 2005 the Home & Personal Care division now operated as one category in each of the three business groups. The business groups were Europe, AsiaAmet and the Americas. In each Business Group there the Categories: HPC; Foods and Foods Solutions.

On 24 June 2011 Paul Polman announced changes to Unilever’s category and go-to-market structure as well as important changes in its senior leadership team. The Category organisation was broadened to four categories: Personal Care, Refreshment, Food and Home Care.
