Business Groups were created in 1997 and a mixture of geographical and 
product groups were established:

Foods & Beverages-Europe

Ice Cream & Frozen Foods- Europe

Home & Personal Care-Europe

Home & Personal Care-North America

Foods-North America

Africa

Central Asia & Middle East

Central & Eastern Europe

Latin America

North East Asia

South East Asia & Australasia

DiverseyLever

National Starch & Crosfield

Quest & Unichema

The National Starch & Crosfield, and Quest & Unichema business groups were 
disbanded after the sale of the speciality chemicals companies to ICI in 1997.

Further re-organisation came in 1998 when responsibility for Japan and South 
Korea was transferred from North East Asia to South East Asia & Australasia 
which was renamed East Asia & Pacific. This left North East Asia group 
comprising of China and Taiwan and the group was renamed China. So the business groups at this time were:

HPC-Europe 

HPC-North America 

Foods-North America 

Africa

Central Asia & Middle East

Central & Eastern Europe

East Asia & Pacific

'Path to Growth'

Further changes were announced in August 2000 to take into account the 
integration of Bestfoods and the Unilever 'Path to Growth' strategy. Two new 
global divisions, HPC and Foods, were created on 1 January 2001. By mid-2001 
the business groups had been re-aligned as follows:

Middle East & Turkey

Ice Cream & Frozen Foods

One Unilever


In February 2005 Unilever announced a change in management structure to streamline the organisation and running of the Company. The business groups were Europe, AsiaAmet and Americas. Within each group each member country is to operate under the banner Unilever followed by the country name e.g. Unilever UK.

To streamline the country organisations further 25 Multi Country Organisations are going to be created.

This will group together certain countries within the business groups. For example within Europe, Unilever Ireland and Unilever UK have been joined together as one MCO.

Another MCO incorporating Unilever Germany, Unilever Switzerland and Unilever Austria has also been created.
